Let's talk about ...

Menopause

By 2025, there will be an estimated 1 billion globally in the menopause. Medically, it is defined as the absence of menstrual periods for 12 consecutive months due to declining oestrogen levels. It’s the time in a woman's life when ovarian function ceases, bringing with it several ‘classic’ symptoms. It is, however, important to note that there is no ‘classic patient’.

Natural menopause usually occurs between the ages of 44 and 55, although 1 in 100 women may experience it before the age of 40. It can also be induced earlier due to surgery, severe illness, or medication.

In countries with an ageing population, 1/3 of a woman’s life is spent in the perimenopausal, menopausal, or post-menopausal stage.
